Christmas 2009 I had planned on finishing off the quilt that I had started for my son when he was just a baby, and make one for each of my other children. Skipping forward to about September 2010 and I had quilt tops done for all three children, and a quilt basted for Mum's birthday (which had been in April) and made no further progress.
I gave up on the idea of machine quilting them myself and gave them to my cousin, who pased them on to a lovely lady who not only machine quilted the quilts for Mum, the smallest and my boy but attached the binding for me as well.
All I have to do is hand stitch the binding on the back of the quilt. Mum's was finished and gifted just after Christmas (she did get something else for her birthday). I forgot to take a photo so will have to do that next time I am at her place.
It is the boy's birthday in a couple of weeks so I am finishing the binding on his now and it will be a birthday gift. The smallest girl has her birthday in April and will be getting her quilt (and hopefully a matching pillowcase) for her birthday.
The big girl is a different story - I started to hand quilt her quilt and she wants me to keep going. Who knows how long that will take?

Hurray for progress! I've realized I don't have the attention span for large-scale quilts, but I think the worst part for me would be the quilting and binding part. I'd gladly pass it on to someone else!
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that's what is most special about quilts - the time put into them! Well done :)
